A few weeks ago I got a hot tip from another seller about a keyword that was trending on Teachers Pay Teachers.
It sounded easy enough, so I bought some school clipart I’d had my eyes on and got to creating.
I ended up creating 6-7 of these because they were incredibly easy to make (which most of my resources are not) and I was enjoying a break from making content heavy stuff.
I had the CUTEST background I was using. It was pink with happy little school supplies. I just KNEW it was going to be popular.
And I haven’t sold a single one.
As a matter of fact, of the several, very cute folder covers and labels I made, only one has sold.
Rainbow crayon.
And not just one.
This is my best selling product ever.

I mean, don’t get me wrong, the crayons are cute and all, but they don’t hold a candle to the pink school supplies.
Or maybe I’m wrong.
I’m assuming it’s a mix of less color and preschool/kindergarten teachers wanting something simple.
My main point is that we can spend HOURS and HOURS making this big, complicated thing to get people excited, but when it comes down to it, sometimes simplicity just wins.
That’s true when creating products, and also in your teaching.
You don’t need every lesson to be Instagram perfect.
You just need something simple that lands with kids and actually works.
